Great read! This scenario involves a new and terrifying concept for this dystopian novel. Something so simple and yet complex has become involved in almost everything we use, but is bad for our environment, is plastic. Plastic takes a very long time to decompose, from 10 to 1,000 years, and is filling up our landfills and oceans. If a company develops a formula to decompose it, that would be a good thing, or would it?MELT is the horrifying idea that the formula to destroy plastic got away from the company’s controlled environment and began to decompose in the wild. This is the story of one of the company’s VPs and her family. As she races to contain MELT, her family is on their own at their cabin, trying to ready for this disaster.Characters are well developed and you quickly become interested in each one’s story. Little Midge is especially fun. The book is a great read, but the ending was a little abrupt. I understand the story continues, but I felt like it needed something that tied up the book without concluding the storyline. Can’t wait to read the next one!!
Interesting plot idea. Then the story started and it dropped like a Lead Zeppelin. Not worth the tofu it took to power the writer.
The book was very absorbing with excellent characters and great plot development. There were spots where it felt like too much telling and not enough showing, particularly in the chapters in the city. I also didn’t like the end.
After reading the sample of MELT I had to purchase this book. It was a novel concept in the genre of apocalyptic books. It was a fast but satisfying read and now I'm going to purchase and read book 2.
If you read the previous reviews, you know the premise for this dystopian series. After I read it, I don't mind saying that it scared me to death. Mike and his partner make it so real that it's easy to visualize the situation and the terror it brings.As usual, I am waiting breathlessly for the next offering, and I highly recommend this book!
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the new concept. There are quite a few dystopian novels and stories out there. This series has a different take. No bombs, war, EMP...a company develops a product that helps in reducing and eliminating plastics. I don’t want to give too much away. It’s well thought out and makes you realize how many things contain plastic. It follows Alice, an employee at the company and Bill, her husband. There was lots of action packed moments. A recommended read!
I'm not great at writing reviews. All I can say is read it. It's about a problem we are already facing-what to do about the safe disposal of plastics. And a company tries to invent a product to answer that problem. What could possibly go wrong.
This is definitely a new twist on the ever expanding SHTF genre.It is a bit tedious to get through because even though it contains many demanding predicaments for the characters, it just doesn’t move at a fast enough pace to truly hold one’s interest for very long. I read it rather quickly because I just wanted to get through the story. I look forward to the 2nd book, and hope that it will break away from the character development, which seems to go on and on, and move on in a new direction.
