Derek is instantly smitted with the younger man, but will Corey ever be ready for another D/s relationship, or will he leave the BDSM lifestyle behind?“Damaged†sub meets the “right†dom may seem like a repeating theme of many BDSM romances, but “Safe Limits†manages to make it fresh and interesting. Corey's trauma and his initial reactions to the people around him seem quite real. His turnaround might seem a little too fast and easy, but it doesn't happen without some groundwork and acknowledgement of the process, so it's more a case of a bit of literary license to keep the story moving along at a reasonable pace.We get quite a good picture of Corey. He is a nice, naturally submissive young man who, as a newcomer on the scene, was easily manipulated by an uncaring and unscrupulous Dom. You're probably going to be rooting for him from the very beginning.Derek takes a little while for us to get to know and warm up to, but he eventually shines through as someone who will do anything to protect someone he cares about. The story derives a few occasions of comic relief mainly from Derek's attempts to figure out what to do with the skittish Corey, and then try to maintain a distance until he is sure Corey is ready.The characters may be archetypes but they're still well defined, which is a big part of what makes the story a good read.
I loved getting to know Derek in this book! His exterior is that of a gruff bear and he is not looking for one man in his life, none of the previous men have been able to appreciate his home nor his person. We meet Corey as he is desperate for help and peace. He has been badly abused and he has lost the ability to trust his own decisions. As Derek gives Corey a temporary safe place, they both become aware of each other and an attraction develops. I loved how the exterior of the man changes in Corey's perception as he gets to know Derek!i enjoyed watching Corey become strong enough and trust Derek to hear his story. i Loved Derek, he is so clear on the right and wrong of the abuse of Corey and he and his partners in the Kiss of Leather club take steps to stop the person that hurt Corey.It was heartwarming to see Corey develop into the man that he was meant to be and to watch the relationship between Derek and Corey become strong and sensual. Corey works with a therapist and i love how they wait until he is stronger for their sexual encounters. Their chemistry is hot and the sex is awesome. Such a beautiful journey of healing and becoming the person you were meant to be.i loved seeing Corey and Kyle develop a friendship and how they helped each other grow to be stronger and clearer. It was nice to see Gaven and Kyle's relationship continue to develop and i enjoyed the bonds that developed between all of the characters.
A dramatic, sweet and romantic pairing is the Corey & Derek story. I liked the MCs, the pacing and the side characters. I also got a glimpse of the first couple in this series Kyle & Gavin. Plan on reading book 3.
While I enjoyed both Derek and Corey, this book had the feel of one long holding pattern in the larger story. I didn't feel that much of anything got resolved here though more potential questions and conflicts arose.Since I haven't read the rest of the series, I can't tell if this would be a good stand alone, or if it is a necessary step in the rest of the story.
A great series, I have enjoyed all these books.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.Book two in the Kiss of Leather series and I strongly recommend you read book one, Building Bonds, first. Master Gavin and Kyle's relationship continues in this book.Master Derek agrees to watch over David's best friend, Corey, while Master Josh and David are away. Faced with the young man, Master Derek can't help but soften his natural growlly voice; Corey is scared, and when Master Derek finds out WHY?? Oh my days! Protective instincts abound! Corey needs to know: whatever HE did, he did not deserve what happened to him.Again, Master Derek and Corey's relationship moves rapidly, far more so that I was expecting, especially when the truth about what Corey ran from becomes clear. Master Derek needs to temper his natural bear-ness, although Corey does has a thing for a bear! It doesn't take long for these two to admit their feelings, though and I rather enjoyed being made to wait for them to consummate their relationship.Also enjoying again, the EMOTIONS involved! Corey is, by his own admission, a bit of a mess and it takes all of Master Derek's experience as a Master to bring out just what Corey is feeling. I think the event that bought Corey to Master Derek might run on into future books.Things are progressing at the club, although still not yet open!Loving these books so far. Loved this one a bit more than book one! Quite a bit more! I hope they are all up to this standard. Trying NOT to read them back to back though! Loving that ALL the guys seem to be taking a part in these books.This one carries a darker story line, and some readers may find it difficult reading.5 full stars**same worded review will appear elsewhere**
