A wonderfully written book with unique and interesting outdoor cooking and camping recipes. This book is beautifully photographed too, so you know what the dish will look like when you are finished. I recently used 6 of the recipes for a outdoor cooking event that I was teaching. I picked different methods and each worked out well. I like that the recipes show exactly how many coals to use, so even beginners don't struggle with trying to figure things out. The beginning sections on how to's for outdoor cooking and living are very well written. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat. I like the uniqueness of the recipes, the simple ingredients and the ease! Nothing too difficult fancy but you eat like you are in a 5star for the weekend!
A thoroughly well thought out compilation of wonderful recipes! Nearly all the recipes include a beautiful and artfully prepared picture of the finished product, which was a big selling point for me. Sometimes just staring at a picture of the end result is enough motivation to help me get through the dread of having to shop, chop, prep, cook and serve something the family ends up devouring in minutes, without so much as a nod in my general direction. And then I get to clean up and do the dishes - oh joy! (insert sarcastic emoji here)The huge bonus for me is the included "Alternative Cooking Method" box added to the end of most of the recipes, giving me an excuse to skip the outdoor experience and take my glass of wine inside where I can sip, chop, sip again, prep, sip again and again and again and. . . . wait, what was I doing?? Oh yes, cook the meal in the preheated oven and not the un-preheated one underneath (true story - spouses, check on your chef if s/he seems extra happy in that kitchen!)I especially love the S'Mores Buffet suggestions to liven up any post-meal campfire family time - anyone up for s'mores a la The Elvis (graham crackers, peanut butter, bananas and marshmallows - a bite of Burning Love I must say!!!)Whether or not you're in your wine-induced happy place, this awesome cookbook will satisfy your every craving - sweet or savory!
Even if you've never gone camping (ahem *city girl* ahem), Laura's book will inspire you not only to hit the great outdoors, but to do it in gourmet style. I will confess that I have made several of these recipes at home using my outdoor grill, stove and oven...and they are DELICIOUS. I can only imagine that they would be exponentially more delicious in the wild! This is a great book to give as a gift to anyone who likes camping.
The minute I opened Laura Bashar's latest book of juicy creations I thought "I almost wish I was a camper." I bought her book as a gift for a friend who does a lot of camping and cooking. I was instantly caught up in the beautiful photo's and easy way in which she relates a recipe step by step as well as how she has a header or footer adapting to "alternate cooking methods". I've now bought myself a copy...who knows maybe I'll be inspired enough to go into the woods and cook.
We camp several times a year and this book has given us new recipes and ideas we never thought were possible for "camp" meals! So many great things from breakfasts, to snacks, dinners and desserts. There is even a section for drinks! If you do any kind of camping with family or groups, this is a must-have book for your camp chef!
This beautifully executed cookbook is filled with practical recipes and photos that literally make my mouth water. Basic techniques for cooking outdoors are first introduced, including how to setup and clean your outdoor kitchen, safely and easily manage your outdoor fire, and select the best approach (flame, grill, dutch oven, etc) for your meal. When I pick up this cookbook, I'm inspired to setup a tent and spend the summer outdoors. But in case of rain, the author has even included tips for cooking most recipe indoors as well. This is a great gift for the outdoor cooking enthusiast looking to elevate his/her game.
It is amazing what can be done over a campfire with just a little planning. The meals shown are really not that hard to make and taste better than hot dogs and canned beans. Great pictures too, and easy to follow instructions. Try it, you'll like it!
Couldn’t wait to get my hands on this cookbook. Laura’s olive oil cookbook was excellent. Can’t wait to try these recipes over the campfire or at our cabin.
